A shift in standard gas engines is this year's largest new Highlander update. The 3.5-liter V6 engine is out. A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder one is in. The new engine delivers 265-horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. The change is designed for smoother handling, especially when passenger and cargo capacities are utilized. Fuel efficiency remains the same as the V6 for this higher-torque engine with an estimated 24 MPG combined.2023 Highlander Limited and Platinum trim levels receive new 12.3-inch infotainment displays and 12.3-inch digital gauge clusters. As a result, users can now access multimedia across the entire screens in glare-reducing environments. Those high-end trims also gain power-folding exterior mirrors. The XLE and XSE add a hands-free power-operated rear liftgate.
Additionally, the new Highlander's wireless charging capabilities improved with a location switch. The Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charger, previously in the center console box, is now on the instrument panel shelf.
