The All New 2023 Toyota Crown is here.
With its arrival, comes a lot of questions. Is this sedan replacing the Toyota Camry, Corolla, or Avalon? Is it a hybrid vehicle? How fast can it get from 0-60 miles per hour? How many miles to the gallon does it get? What are the specs? How much is it?
We at Sloane Toyota of Philadelphia are going to answer those questions, and a whole lot more, with our 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum trim level review.
Toyota announced the Crown’s addition to its U.S. lineup last year and discontinued the Avalon. But don’t worry Camry and Corolla fans. Those popular sedans aren’t going anywhere. Originally slated for a Winter 2022 release, the Crown is making its way to our, and other, Toyota dealerships across the country this month. The Crown Platinum is the sedan’s premium trim. It comes in two others – the XLE and Limited - and is the first Toyota sedan with a standard hybrid powertrain.
The Crown Platinum’s starting MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) is $52,350*. That is $12,400 more than the XLE base trim, and a $6,800-increase over the Limited. However, the Platinum comes with enough bells and whistles to earn luxury sedan status. In fact, in Japan, where the Crown nameplate has existed since the 1950s, it’s already considered a luxury vehicle.

2023 Toyota Crown Platinum Specifications
Underneath the 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum’s hood lies an all-new Hybrid MAX powertrain featuring a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor on the rear axle. This results in 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 5.7 seconds – nearly two seconds faster than the XLE and Limited’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system. The Platinum’s engine also delivers 340 combined net horsepower. That is 44% more HP than the XLE and Limited. However, the Hybrid MAX’s power sacrifices fuel efficiency. The Platinum gets a combined 30 MPG. The XLE and Limited get 41 combined MPG.

2023 Toyota Crown Platinum Features
The Crown Platinum shines the brightest when factoring in its large amount of exclusive comfort, technological, and safety features. An adaptive suspension ensures a smooth ride by allowing drivers to select how the car handles in relation to driving conditions. Five drive modes are available (the XLE and Limited offer three), and paddle shifters allow drivers to shift gears while holding the steering wheel instead of having to move their hands. The Platinum also includes an advanced parking system that enables the sedan to utilize sensors to park itself into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces, and a 360-degree overhead camera. For an additional cost, Platinum customers can even get stylish exterior black tone paint to go with four main colors: Oxygen White, Heavy Metal, Supersonic Red, or Bronze Age. This is not available on the XLE and Limited.

The Crown Platinum is Worth the Upgrade
If you’re searching for a quality midsize sedan and debating between Crown models, the 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum is the way to go. Its power reminds of a sports car. Its features remind of a high-end luxury vehicle. In our opinion, those factors more than offset the Platinum’s lesser fuel economy and higher price tag.
