The All-New 2019 Toyota RAV4 is a Big, Bad Wolf Among Sheep

We're pretty excited about the release of the all-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 this week at the New York International Auto Show. This redesign marks the first major revamp for the brand's best-selling compact SUV in almost nine years.

Sometimes, a brand will redo a model and the changes are so subtle that it's hard to notice that there was a major generational change at all.

That did not happen here; other than the size of the vehicle, it may be hard to recognize this SUV as a RAV4 at all.

But that's not a bad thing.

Toyota's New Platform Arrives for the 2019 RAV4

What gave Toyota the opportunity to charge ahead on a wild new redesign for the 2019 RAV4 crossover was the introduction of their New Global Architecture platform--a new common design, engineering, and production strategy that Toyota hopes will push it even farther ahead in sales. The RAV4 has never been hurting for sales numbers, but a new platform is exactly what was needed to keep it on top.

The new platform means that the next-gen 2019 RAV4 is about 1.2 inches longer in the wheelbase, half an inch wider, and a little bit shorter. We hope this translates to more cargo space overall and maybe more legroom, but only final specs will tell.

A Rugged New Design, and 2019 RAV4 Adventure Grade

The striking new design of the 2019 RAV4 speaks to Toyota's whole new persona that they're developing. It all started with the Prius Prime, somewhat surprisingly, as the brand started to adopt harsh new angles and aggressive new curves in place of their usual smooth corners and soft lines.

It's a makeover that's happening slowly, but steadily, for this practical economy brand, and the 2019 RAV4 is the latest recipient.

Also exciting: the RAV4 Adventure trim--with a boosted ride height and impressive towing specs--will be carrying over as a complement to the all-new style.

The all-new 2019 RAV4 won't go on sale in Philadelphia until later this year, and we're not expecting to see the newest RAV4 Hybrid formally released until the beginning of 2019. But, it's never too soon to get on our list, so if you know that you'll wanting to be upgrade to a new SUV within the next year, reach out to our team soon, to learn more and to sign up for our pre-order list.
